Breaking News! GRIP 2013

Posted: July 23rd, 2012

Stop the presses! The 2013 course lineup for the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh, better known as GRIP, was just distributed! And what a lineup it is. The following courses will be offered from July 22-26, 2013, at La Roche College in Pittsburgh:

  1. Intermediate Genealogy: Tools for Digging Deeper, with Paula Stuart-Warren
  2. Skills for Proof, with Thomas W. Jones
  3. Bridging the 1780-1840 Gap: From New England to the Midwest, with Josh Taylor
  4. Military Records: From Cradle to Grave, with Craig R. Scott
  5. Your Immigrant Ancestors’ Stories: Writing a Quality Narrative, with John P. Colletta
  6. Advanced Research Tools: Land Records, with Rick Sayre and Pam Sayre.

It looks like GRIP is mixing it up and not keeping the same courses from year to year. What a boon to those of us in the Northeast to have the opportunity to take so many high level courses. Thank you Elissa Scalise Powell and Debbie Lichtner Deal for bringing this to us!

They all sound good to me. Which course would you most like to take?

  1. Cathi — Thanks! Is Tom’s course all-new? Craig’s? Josh’s sounds like what he will give at SLIG in January, v. interesting. When will we be seeing syllabi? — Harold

    • I don’t know the answers to any of these questions, Harold, but I will see if I can find out!

      • Cathi says:

And the answer is… Tom said that GRIP 2013 will be the first time that his course will be given in its entirety. He will present some pieces of it at the SLIG British institute, but it will be the debut of the full course. So there you have it, straight from the source.

  2. The course details will be made a little later this fall. Check the GRIPitt.org website to stay up to date or sign up for email notifications there.

Josh Taylor’s Migrations out of New England through NY, PA, and Ohio sold out at SLIG. It is a course of high interest in Pittsburgh as will be Tom Jones’ Skillbuilding for Proof. The latter (as stated) is an expansion of what he will do for the British Institute in October 2012.

The Military Records track with Craig Scott and John Colletta’s Writing Your Immigrants’ Stories each capitalize on the expertise of the coordinator. The Sayres Advanced Land course is surely to be popular. Paula Stuart-Warren’s Intermediate will be offered again.

So keep an eye out for further developments which will be posted on the website.
